Academic questions  

1. How many levels must UMET students take?

Depending on the program to which you are applying at UMET, you must take the number of levels in MLS corresponding to the CEFR. To obtain a B2 level there are 8 levels in MLS, B1 are 6 levels, A2 are 4 levels and to obtain an A1 there are 2 levels. 

2. How long does each level last?

Each level lasts 4 weeks and there are two weeks between levels for the academic planning of the next level, so the 8 levels will be completed in approximately one year. 

3. Can Itake English elsewhere? 

You can do it; however, you must take into account that MLS by the official policy UMET-VRA-2016-0009 is the only authorized center to validate your knowledge in the foreign language as a qualification requirement. 

4. Can a person who is not a UMET student study at MLS?

Yes, they can. MLS is a language center and is open to all audiences. You should take into account that the costs for UMET students have a discount, so the cost to individuals is different. 

5. What book do you work with and how much does it cost?

The book we work is called Pearson English Interactive (PEI) and must be purchased at the Studium bookstore. For UMET students, they offer a discount. 

6. Is MLS regulated bySenecyt?

There are no regulations that regulate language centers in the country. Senecyt is an institution which regulates Higher Education entities and MLS is not. Therefore, MLS has, unlike other language centers, the university endorsement, through the issuance of certificates endorsed by UMET and the Metropolitan Foundation under an inter-institutional agreement since 2016. 

7. Can I skip English to the following semester? 

The requirement of the University is that you enroll at least one level per semester, since you have until the 8th semester to complete the 8 levels. Otherwise, the University will suspend your degree until you finish English and then it will re-enable it.

1. Who can I complain to?

In order to take a proper follow-up to your claim, the first thing you should do is to write an email indicating the reasons for the complaint and to send it to the institutional email of the MLS Management rharo@mlsedu.ec; if you are not satisfied with the resolution of the same you must send an email to Dr. Carlos Amaya, who is the attorney for the Metropolitan Foundation, to camaya@fundacionmetropolitana.org. 

2. Do you deliver a certificate for passing the 8 levels?

MLS does deliver certificates for the equivalence levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which has the endorsement of the Metropolitan University and the support of the Metropolitan Foundation. 

3. Could I certify my MLS English certificationat another university? 

Yes, you could, since our courses are endorsed by the Metropolitan University, which is an institution of Higher Education. Upon cancellation of $ 30 in MLS, we will provide the original syllabus and transcripts, signed and stamped by the MLS Management so that you can carry out the process at your university. 

4. Why is English not within the curriculum?

The Metropolitan University, with its desire to improve the quality of its teaching, extracts the foreign language from the curriculum and creates an agreement with Metropolitan Languages School (Center specialized in the teaching of English) so that its students have better benefits for learning the foreign language and can comply not only legal but also at the level of knowledge, to their graduation requirement. 

5. WhereshouldI go to see the results of the placement tests? 

The results will be sent to your WhatsApp or personal email. 

6. Am I a UMET student and I can’t see my MLS English grades?

You should be aware that MLS is not UMET, it is a Language Center totally separate from the Metropolitan University and that is why in the UMET system you will not be able to view any MLS notes. 

7. After taking the placement test, can I take another test?

MLS does not allow its students to take the exams consecutively, they must wait 1 month to take their evaluation again.

2. Is there a discount for UMET students?


MLS does have a discount for students of the Metropolitan University, it has a discount of 30 dollars each level, since the value for the private student is 210 dollars. Thus, to UMET students, a savings of $ 290 is generated throughout the course.

7. What credit cards do you accept?

For deferred payments to 3 months without taxes, 6 or 12 months with extra taxes.

Yes, you can. Taking into account that each level canceled in advance will be used in case of repeating your level, for the enrollment of the repeated level.

9. I need the return of the canceled values, how couldI do it?

MLS can help you with the refund only the values ​​of the services that you did not obtain. The values ​​invoiced as levels and registrations are not refundable.
